Supporting People in the High Peak &
Derbyshire Dales

Voluntary and Community Services Peaks and Dales is a local charity providing vital support services to older, disabled and vulnerable people in the community across the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales.  We have offices in Buxton and Ashbourne, with some services available from Bakewell.  We also offer some of our Aspire services in Tameside.

Thank You!

‘Thank you’ to the Rotary Club of Ashbourne who donated £1000 towards maintaining the transport service following the CCG cuts.

Angels, angels everywhere!

You may have seen knitted angels popping up in various places around Buxton by now! This is a joint project with #BuxtonMethodistChurch to spread knitted angels, made by our Older Person's Craft Group. The angels all carry a message about how you can help prevent loneliness and isolation. The angels were all blessed at the Church a week or so ago (see picture below).

You can find the angels around the town - we are putting them out each weekend until Christmas. Please feel free to take one and keep it. Every weekend there will be a golden angel - if you find it, you can call into our offices on Eagle Parade to claim a prize!

For more information on how you could volunteer to help us tackle loneliness or about our other community projects, call 01298 23970.

Can you help raise our fundraising thermometer?

We now have a giant fundraising 'thermometer' on the wall outside the offices in Buxton - we hope this will help to raise awareness of our fundraising campaigns!  At the moment we are trying to raise money towards replacing 'Tilly', our smaller wheelchair accessible vehicle, which helps hundreds of older and disabled people each year to access medical and social appointments.

We had a generous donation from Severn Trent and a grant from the Percy Bilton Charity but we still have a little way to go.  Can you help?

You can donate by using the Paypal button to the right of this webpage, or by making a cheque to VCS Peaks & Dales, by cash at our offices, or by BACS - call us on 01298 23970 for details.

Howdens - a  big thank-you!

We recently received a donation of £150 from Howdens in Buxton.  The money was given to help us provide Christmas 'thank-you' get-togethers for our army of volunteers, to whom we owe so much.

“Without our volunteers, we would not be able to provide the range of help that we do,” explains Gill Geddes, Chief Executive. “Helping older and disabled people get to hospital, supporting them when they are discharged, providing a friend for those who are lonely – all these are services that rely heavily on our volunteers.  So once a year, it’s a pleasure for us to be able to express our appreciation.  This donation from Howdens is so generous, and will help us to show our volunteers how much giving their time so selflessly means to us and to the people they support”.

Our project to fight loneliness at Christmas has wings!

Our Christmas Angel project, with #BuxtonMethodistChurch, has taken off and the number of angels is growing, but we still need more to reach our target of 1000.

If you can knit even one for us, call into our offices on Market Place, Buxton to pick up a pattern.

Could we also ask anyone who is knitting angels for us to either drop them off or let us know how many you have, so we can update people on progress, please?

Donation from Marks and Spencer's in Buxton

We are celebrating a cash boost of nearly £2,000 from our local Marks and Spencer in Buxton.

Gill Geddes, Chief Executive at VCS, based on the Market Place said “It has been a big boost for us being Marks and Spencer charity of the year. The money they have raised will help us continue to provide services, such as the Befriending Service, which supports older people who are socially isolated”

Nev Clarke from Marks and Spencer said "We raised funds in a variety of ways.  There were of course bag packs.  We had a number of bake sales, where staff made and purchased cakes.  Several events were held backstage, raffles, book sales and a big chunk of the proceeds came from the sale of carrier bags in our clothing and home department."

If you are interested in helping our befriending service or becoming a volunteer driver please call into our office at 16 Eagle Parade, Buxton or call us on 01298 23970

Grant funding from Foundation Derbyshire helps our Befriending Service

We have recently been lucky enough to get a £5000 grant from Foundation Derbyshire to help support High Peak Befriending.  This is excellent news, especially as we are expecting funding cuts from local CCG's.  This grant secures the future of the Befriending Service for at least another year.

For information about our Befriending Service, email or follow the links on the menu to the left.

Severn Trent boosts our wheelchair accessible vehicle fund!

We recently had the good fortune to receive a cheque for £10,000 towards the replacement of our small wheelchair accessible vehicle.  We were put forward for support by the Rt Hon Sir Patrick McLoughlin, and we are very grateful - this really helps us towards our £25,000 target.

Sarah Griffiths, Severn Trent

Howard Gunn VCSPD Head of Transport Services

BUT......we still need more funding by the end of September if we are to replace the vehicle! Can you help us?  Maybe you could do a fun run.  Or how about a sponsored Bake Sale? We may be able to help you organise a fundraising event for us. Give us a call and talk over your idea.

If you think you can help, or you could make a small donation, please call 01298 23970 for more information.

Thank you!
